otherwise I may do it just to sort of feel if the car is going to do something.
Frequently i’ll also hold onto cars for a nice ride/turbo boost if the conditions warrant it.

The reason you don’t just stay only in the right lane all the time is simple: people make right hand turns/try to park frequently. It would slow you down/stop you way too much.
